Where Was God on 9/11?

Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be God…have you?

If you are God, you witness the symphony of light from a billion galaxies as they soar through endless space.

If you are God, you are surrounded by an angelic choir and the voices of praise from every corner of the universe envelop your throne.

And if you are God, you are unceasingly barraged with the wailing and weeping of those in pain and loss. Not a moment goes by that isn’t laced with the sound of tragedy and death.

And ten years ago, there was a day when God witnessed 2,819 innocent lives brutally taken as the towers fell and our entire nation was hurled into a state of shock and disbelief.

What would it have been like to be God on that day?

If you were over the age of 6 or 7, you most likely remember where you were and what you were doing when the first reports of the terrorist attacks hit the airwaves, and after the initial distress tapered off, there were many who asked this question:

Where was God and what was He doing on that day?

Any “‘answer” to this question that comes from a finite and limited human being would be in the category of flawed opinion. It seems to me that if we have a question for God - especially one that involves such a weighty issue - we should let Him answer. So let’s listen to the words of the One who has graciously chosen to speak to us:

The Lord reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness (Psalm 9:7-8).

So the initial answer to “where was God on 9/11?” is simple…He was where He is today 10 years later. He is on the Throne of heaven where He always has been and always will be. He is perfect, so it is impossible for Him to operate outside the parameters of justice and fairness.

But how is it “just” and “fair” when planes are used as weapons of war?

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

In other words, in our limited perspective we take complicated scenarios and try to simplify them so we can try and make sense out of senseless violence. Or worse, in our arrogance we try and take a higher moral position than the God who is the source of all morality in the first place!

But what we should keep in mind is that for reasons known only to an infinite God, the acts of wicked men were allowed to fulfill some kind of purpose. This is one of the most difficult truths about God to wrap our heads and hearts around, but it remains a truth regardless of our understanding or agreement. God is God, and we are not. God is good…all the time…because that is His nature.

So rather than asking “where was God on 9/11/01,” perhaps a better question would be: “Where am I on 9/11/11?” Have I come to the realization that the world is a place of great beauty and love, and it is also the stronghold of unspeakable evil? And because of this reality, I have the highest calling and responsibility in the universe - which is to make disciples who make disciples.

The events that transpired ten years ago are some of the darkest days in the history of the United States. Let the dark memories of this great tragedy remind you of Jesus’ incredible promise:

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life” (John 8:12).

Our nation needs the “light that leads to life,” and you carry that light with you wherever you go. God is on His throne and His ways are as far above our ways as the heavens are above the earth. While you may think that the world is asking “where is God?” in times of tragedy, they are also asking “where are His followers when I need them???”

New Theme, New Design

Hope you like the new design. I know, I know it's been since Christmas since I've updated this thing, but I'm going to try and change that and update more often.

Our theme for this fall is "Rooted In Christ" and comes from Jeremiah 17:7-8.

I'm super excited about this semester and what God has in store for us.

Arkansas Youth Conference

The Arkansas Youth Conference or AYC for short is coming up soon. April 16th and 17th to be exact. Those that have signed up, we will be meeting at the church at 3:30pm on Friday to head to Little Rock for the conference. If you haven't paid your $25 registration fee, I need that As Soon As Possible. I'm excited about AYC, and can't wait to see what God is going to do.

Wild Game Supper

Our second annual Wild Game Supper Fundraiser is right around the corner, on December 12th, from 6pm to 8pm at the church. Tickets are only $5 and will help send a Uth to camp. T-shirts will be on sale as well for only $15. See any member of the Uth Group or one of the Uth leaders to reserve your ticket and order your shirt. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board if you would like to sign up to enter a wild game dish in the contest. Hope to see ya'll there.

Youth Sunday!

Sunday November 22nd, 2009 was High Attendance Sunday, Thanksgiving Potluck, and also Youth Sunday. The Uth had a great time leading the service. Instead of Hymnal songs, we sang "You're Beautiful", "City on our knees", "I'd Need a Savior", and "Undo". We had a lot of positive feed back from the church, so we might be able to do this again sometime. Thanks to all the Uth who came and made this a success. To God be the Glory.

UTH SPRING BREAK TRIP

We just got back from our UTH spring break trip! We had a blast! We left Friday after school and arrived at our Hotel around 6! We checked in and got ready for our night of dinner and ice cream! We ate at TGI FRIDAYS and everyone liked their meal ( steaks, shrimp, and chicken)! We were all full but couldnt wait to get to Cold Stone Creamary for some ICECREAM! Then it was back to the hotel for some swimming! The kids had fun in the pool : chicken fights, relay races, games, and just getting to swim! Then we had a devotion led by aaron! The girls and I headed back to our room for showers! I talked to AJ a few mins lator and his room had the lights out and were in bed and sleeping! My room for several more hours were showering still and i was still hearing lots of giggles! Saturday morning i woke up early and got ready trying to not to wake the girls and in my mind i was thinking it was going to be very hard to get them up! I WAS WRONG! They woke up an hour early and got ready! We all enjoyed the breakfast downstairs and then a devotion by ME! We all were ready early so we decided to go to Lifeway Bible Book Store! The kids enjoyed walking around and looking at all the stuff! Then it was time for PARTY TIME PIZZA! We really enjoyed this place.... all the pizza, drinks, and arcade games we wanted! We also got to race go karts, climb the rock wall, play lazor tag, and mini golf! It was a great trip and look for a slide show coming soon!!!

WINTER JAM 09 was AWESOME!!!!

We had a blast at WINTERJAM! We checked out of school early and stood in line for 5 hours but it was worth it because we got 4th row seats!!! It was great!!! around 18000 people were there praising God in different forms of worship! and AROUND 2000 WERE SAVED!!! AMEN!!! Just doesnt get much better than that! TobyMac put on a show... if you havent ever seen him in concert YOU NEED TO SOON!!!! Brandon Heath sang Give Me Your Eyes which is one of our Wednesday Favs! Newsong introduced us to Arise my Love and we loved Hawk Nelson and Stephanie Smith! Tony Nolan was an awesome speaker. Im excited we have his comedy video so we will be watching that SOON!!!! Great trip hope you enjoy the pics!!!

A.J. Huffman is 33 and has a 5 year old son named Drew. He grew up here in Monticello and graduated from Monticello High School in 1995. He owns his own graphic design business called Designs By AJ. AJ loves his family, God, and the Razorbacks and he enjoys art and computers and technology. AJ is the one who does all our ad designs, t-shirt designs, blog, and computer stuff. He also leads Devotion and Prayer time with our Uth.

Goal: That the youth will be come closer to God through prayer, and reading the Bible. That they will be lights in this world of darkness.

Human Video to I Can Only Imagine

Today we performed a Human Video to I Can Only Imagine. The Uth did an awesome job and Im so proud of them! I hope to upload the video of our performance soon! We met at 9 this morning to pray, practice, and have breakfast. They started the video off by walking around with different SINS and then they placed them on the CROSS! To the chorus they did motions to the words and the during i can only imagine they knelt at the cross with the sins hanging from the cross! the lights when out in the church and the sins where removed and the black lights came on and all you could see was the cross and hands worshiping at the bottom of the cross! It was amazing and I’m so thankful that we can take our sins and leave them at the cross!

Our drama team has performed to dramas now and im so proud of our UTH for allowing God to work through them with this ministry! We will start next Sunday working on the Live Crucifixion. We will perform this Thur- Saturday before Easter. April 9-11 at 7 pm at IBC!
